What causes hair loss?

Once DHT is formed it attaches itself to the receptors on the scalp. This results in the destruction of the hair follicles that are located in the front crown and temple areas. DHT causes the follicles to first become thin and then causes them to fall out. Once a hair falls out from the follicle, a new hair can never regenerate at the same site, which gradually results in balding. Human Growth Hormone, however, directly affects the production of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. This in turn, reduces the formation of DHT by testosterone. With low levels of DHT in the scalp, hair loss and hair damage is considerably reduced.
